HAS ANYONE SEEN ANY ELK?

One of the best things about living in Durango is the never ending array of wildlife.  In the fall and winter the elk migrate down form the high country and are everywhere.  Herds of elk graze along the highways and county roads oblivious to the human invasion of their habitat.

There is nothing that compares to being awakened in the early morning by the bugle of a bull elk.

DURANGO PAYS TRIBUTE!

Hundreds of Durango citizens lined Main Avenue on Veteran's Day to say "Thank You" to the men and women of the United States armed forces for the sacrifices they made, and continue to make, in their service to our country.  Mere words cannot convey the debt we owe these brave people.

BE SILENT AND FEEL THEIR PRESENCE!

Mesa Verde At Night

If you have never experienced Mesa Verde at night you've got to come visit.  Each year during the Christmas season the park opens at night with luminaries lighting one or more of the cliff dwellings.  This photo is of the Spruce Tree House.  In the light of day Mesa Verde National Park is a spectacular, do not miss destination.  In the darkness, under the stars, basked in the glow of candles it transforms into an eerie, almost unbelievable experience.  Be silent and you will be certain you sense the spirits of the Ancient Ones.

DURANGO TRAFFIC JAM

So you think you've got traffic problems!

Fortunately ours only occur twice a year; in the spring moving to the high country and in the fall returning to the flat lands.

This shot was taken on CR 501. There are as many sheep in back as there are in front.

It was pretty loud.
